The Mountain Towns 2030 Climate Action Awards celebrate the bold leadership, collaboration, and innovation happening across our network—while inspiring action in other communities.

At the Breck25 Summit, we’re spotlighting the communities, collaborations, and individuals shaping the future of climate leadership in mountain towns.

 
2025 Climate Action Awards Categories 

From regional collaborations to small-town breakthroughs to standout individuals, this year’s awards celebrate the full spectrum of climate action happening across our network and include the following awards:
 

1. Collaboration Of The Year 
MT2030 is built on the belief that real climate progress happens when organizations work together. This award honors partnerships that turned shared ideas into joint action—and delivered meaningful, collective impact.

2. Small Towns Doing Big Things 
Every community—regardless of size—can lead on climate. This award recognizes a smaller community that has led a high-impact climate initiative. 
 
3. Mountain Catalyst Award 
New for 2025, we will be recognizing a standout individual whose leadership sparked real climate progress within their community and across the MT2030 network.
 

4. Community of The Year 
This award honors a local government—town or county—that has taken bold action through a project or initiative that delivers real, measurable climate impact. It’s about spotlighting communities that are raising the bar and proving what’s possible.

 
Guidelines & FAQs
  • Each nomination must be submitted via the form below
  • You may submit nominations for any or all award categories…from one to all four categories
  • You may submit multiple nominations but please use a separate form for each one
  • You may nominate your own organization, or nominate another organization or individual
  • Each nomination requires submission of a 30-60 video clip. Our MT2030 team will contact you with guidelines for the video clip, which may be presented at the Breck25 Summit.
  • Nominations should focus on work that has launched or been completed within the past 2–3 years
  • Finalists will be selected by the MT2030 Awards Committee and notified in mid-September
  • Deadline to submit is September 5, 2025
  • Winners will be announced at the Summit on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, during the MT2030 Climate Summit’s closing session

1. Collaboration of the Year

MT2030 was built on the belief that we go further, faster when we work together. This award celebrates partnerships—across towns, sectors, or regions—that moved beyond information sharing to create real, on-the-ground climate impact. Whether it was a joint plan, a shared implementation effort, or a creative public–private partnership, we want to recognize the power of collaboration in action. 2024 Recipients: Town of Silverton, San Juan County, CO, San Miguel Power Association, EcoAction Partners for the Silverton Goal of Less Dependency (GOLD) Project
Please nominate multiple organizations (3 or more) in the MT2030 network came together to deliver a project, initiative, or plan that meaningfully advanced climate action, or skip ahead to the next award.

2. Small Towns Doing Big Things

This award honors a smaller community that has delivered a bold, high-impact climate solution. Whether it’s a creative policy, innovative project, or grassroots effort, the recognized work should demonstrate that even small towns can lead in big ways. 2024 Recipient: Town of Crested Butte - All-Electric Building Code

3. Mountain Catalyst Award (Individual)

Nominate an individual from the MT2030 community whose leadership, creativity, or persistence helped spark measurable climate progress. This could be a staff member, elected official, nonprofit leader, or community advocate.

The recognized effort should go beyond plans and pledges to demonstrate clear progress—especially in reducing greenhouse gas emissions or advancing transformative climate solutions. 2024 Recipient: City of Aspen - 100% Renewable Electricity Initiatives
